Memories are tricky things, you can wipe someone's memories or create fake ones but one can always break it given the right pressure.

[ She still wants more information, even if it's not the same Sakura she knew before. ]

They are, but these weren't wiped and she doesn't have fake ones. They were literally transformed into magical feathers to purposely send her on a quest to retrieve them. If I could have returned them to her using magic, I would have.

[ There is something of a sigh. ]

Sakura isn't fully aware of all of the details yet, but Kurogane and I are from her future. Her losing her memories, the journey, regathering her memory-filled feathers - it's all the plot of a man who is using her to fulfill his wish to bring someone back to life. This man is dead now, on our side of things but Sakura comes from much earlier when her memories are still missing.

She does get them back and creates new ones along the way. We haven't told her this, because there's some terrible things about to happen and we want her to enjoy this mostly peaceful world for a little while longer. I know she won't remember this place when she returns, so we thought that we'd spare her the knowledge of a heartbreak that's to come.

That, wasn't what I was expecting.

[ She's a bit taken back to be honest. Time related spells and breaking the laws of the natural order were one of the few things that she refused to touch. For someone to take on that mantel and use a child, it made her blood boil. ]

My lips are sealed, I won't say anything to her. I can promise you that, I don't mess with kids.

[ Her voice was soft, understanding ]

My other question, there was a girl with the same name here months ago. Just a few years younger, is it more time trickery?

It was all very carefully constructed to be able to accomplish the goal.

[ There's a hesitant pause over this. ]

It's been our experience that as we travel worlds, we have seen others who are similar. Though they've lived entirely different lives. Sakura-chan's older brother and the priest of her world might serve food at a restaurant in another. A princess in one but runs a company in another.

So it may not be time trickery, she may just belong to another world where she grew up in a different life. [ So basically parallel worlds, they travel to parallel worlds. ]

Multiversal travel, then. If that's the case I'm surprised you haven't had cosmic beings after you for breaking the rules. Though given what you've said this magic isn't as taboo in your world.

[ It makes her feel a tad bit better, it's not the same Sakura but the basic personality is still the same even in another world. ]

It's very difficult to accomplish, even at my level of magic there's very little I can do to reach the worlds we need to. I don't know if it's taboo, but you could say that we were granted a "legal" way to travel worlds. We all paid a price for it.

[ Now he's curious to know about this other Sakura. ]

What sort of history did this younger Sakura-chan have?
